Producer Jure Franko, known for musicals like Mamma Mia! and Grease, and his production house Prospot from Radovljica, have brought another major global hit to the Slovenian stage: the musical comedy Nuns in Action! – Grand Show. This production has become a true staple at Cankarjev Dom, celebrating its 100th repeat performance in the Linhart Hall this December. This special run is titled "Christmas Grand Show" for a reason, as it's perfectly timed for the December and Christmas holidays.
Nuns in Action! (originally Nunsense) is an extraordinary work by Dan Goggin, which premiered in December 1985 at the Cherry Lane Theatre and remains the second longest-running show Off-Broadway. Over the past thirty years, it has become a global phenomenon, translated into more than 26 languages and enjoyed by audiences worldwide.
Nuns in Action! tells an ingenious story about five nuns who find themselves in financial difficulties and are forced to stage a charity show, where each of them wants to be the main star. Through a series of unusual events, the nuns reveal themselves in a completely different light than we're used to. Under the spotlights, with singing, dancing, and laughter, each one individually and all of them together shine in their own unique way.
The Slovenian version features top Slovenian artistic names who also captivate audiences in Slovenia's most visited musical of all time, Mamma Mia!.
Nuns in Action! will be performed at Cankarjev Dom in a special "Grand Show" rendition, adapted for the Linhart Hall stage. For this exceptional event, the nuns will be joined on stage by top Slovenian male and female dancers, all under the watchful eye of our globally renowned choreographer, Matevž Česen.
It's a show where everyone will find a piece of themselves, and a team that will convince you that each of us can be a saint.
