Il Trovatore

iuseppe Verdi, a master of the opera world, became a true operatic king with Il Trovatore, which is considered a jewel in his repertoire. His works premiered in various cities across the Italian peninsula, as well as in Paris and London, earning him international fame. With Il Trovatore, he solidified his position as a composer who captivated audiences across the globe. Verdi had an exceptional understanding of human nature, torn between immense grandeur and unimaginable misery.

The premiere audience received Il Trovatore with acclaim, even though the performance was not considered top-tier. The story, set at the beginning of the 15th century during one of the many civil wars on the Iberian Peninsula, enchanted the audience. Il Trovatore is an opera about war and death, but also one about great emotions and love.

Ferrando and Azucena recount the story of the kidnapped and murdered brother of Count Luna. Luna becomes consumed by his love for Leonora, but the young woman does not return his feelings, as she loves the troubadour Manrico. Her love, filled with deep romantic emotions and expectations, leads her to be willing to do anything for him, even to die. For Count Luna, unrequited love for Leonora becomes the catalyst for a duel with Manrico. Manrico is not just his rival in the battle for Leonora, but the two also have a political conflict. Their feud is further fueled by Luna’s desire for revenge for the death of his child, caused by Manrico's mother, Azucena. Count Luna allows his hatred to suppress love, while Leonora gives him room in death.

This operatic masterpiece, one of Verdi's most famous and frequently performed works, will come to life on our stage in an interpretation by Yulia Kristoforova, who will particularly explore the story through Azucena's eyes. The orchestra will be conducted by Roberto Gianola.
