She first appeared on television at the age of 12 in 1988 in a commercial for Cockta directed by Jake Judnich. In Mojca Horvat's dance group, where she was dancing at the time, she was chosen to mischievously jump in puddles with Uroš Belantič. In 1989, she starred in the youth film The Infernal Plan. She became more active on television in 1997 with the music show Atlantis. Later, she started performing with the show Zmenkarije on Kanal A and the alternative music show Aritmija on RTV Slovenia.

Her international acting career began with the role of Gabriele in the film The Guard, directed by John M. McDonagh. Her most prominent role to date is in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street. She also co-starred with Al Pacino in Danny Collins. She has starred in numerous British series such as A Touch of Cloth, New Tricks, Death in Paradise, Silent Witness, Love Lies and Records and Wild Bill, as well as the American series Berlin Station and Jack Ryan.

In 2018 she started a singing project K.A.T. (Katarina's Audio Theater). Music by Martin Štibernik- Mistermarsh and lyrics by Mitja Novljan. The project, which she describes as a spontaneous experiment, was inspired by a role in the film I am Frenk, where she played the main character of the singer Ines. In 2019, she released the singles Imaginative Man and Un bacio di luna. On 10 June 2020, the fourth single The Loop was released.
